Stillness of Steel showing this raven sitting quietly in the misty light of an early spring morning, its head turned as it looks back, alert and ever watchful. There is a feeling that the raven is aware of every movement around it, listening, watching and taking in its surroundings without fear.

I wanted to create a sense of thought, control and quiet confidence within the painting. The raven is still, but it does not feel passive. There is strength in its awareness and in the decision to simply observe before making its next move.

The cool springtime colours and soft, misty atmosphere create a calm, almost mysterious feeling. The cooler tones allow the raven to emerge from the haze, giving the painting a sense of depth while keeping the emotion restrained and controlled.

This painting also represents something personal in my own artistic journey. I am continually pushing myself to develop, experiment and become better with my knives. I wanted the marks and textures to feel more deliberate, confident and expressive, allowing the paint itself to help tell the story.

Stillness of Steel is about awareness, control and confidence — the quiet strength of knowing when to watch, when to listen and when to move forward.
